This 800 pounds grizzly bear called Brutus is Casey Anderson’s best friend, believe it or not. The famous naturalist and his furry friend are inseparable from the day Brutus was a 2 weeks old cub. Casey saved the bear from an overpopulated wildlife park, and raised him with lot of attention, love and respect.
Brutus the bear is living in a sanctuary that Casey built so he can freely live like a grizzly bear is supposed to live. Being around Brutus is not dangerous because he is comfortable around people, but Casey is still not letting anybody have physical contact with Brutus but himself. He is not afraid that the bear will ever attack him because he knows and predicts his every move.
The two of them are so close that Brutus was Casey’s best man at his wedding
Favorite things that Brutus likes to do is to sleep, play with other grizzly bears, eat marshmallows and Twinkies, and get attention from people, especially when he “flirts” with women. He is really comic and intelligent, and will always do something silly to make everybody laugh.
Casey and Brutus are actually having their own show on National Geographics that’s called “Expedition Grizzly“. There are several other people that have wild animals as pets, like a hyena or a baboon.
This is just amazing! This show us that with a little bit of respect and love to the nature we could live like we always wanted. U really make my day! Thanks a lot!

Was just going to say the same thing, Nash…the bears sanctuary is right outside my town, Bozeman MT.
This is wonderful but how long will this last? Just recently a 30 year old whale at Sea World in Orlando turned on a female trainer eat her. This wasn’t the first time too. I adore animals but friendships with Grizzly Bears are rare highly unusual. Surely there’s always the expected turn of events and the adults are prepared for PLAN B. Animals are unpredictable at any given moment despite their ongoing kind nature. I think it’s great nonetheless.
I hereby nominate this brave young man for this year’s Darwin Awards.

Get real guys. Some of these ARE NOT photoshopped because they have their own show. Tune in sometime and stop with the negative comments. As my mama says, if you dont have anything nice to say, DON’T SAY IT AT ALL. Obvisouly(sp?), people still need to learn that lesson.

I’ve seen enough nature documentaries and news reports about animals while lying on my couch to assert that this is a bad idea! I mean this is a wild animal! Some animals are naturally wild, like bears, and some animals are naturally supposed to live with humans, like dolphins. This is the way things are supposed to be, that’s why they call them wild. I don’t care if this guy is a “specialist” and has been raising it since it was two weeks old, my opinion is more valid! This guy is obviously an idiot, I can properly judge this situation from a few pictures and sentences on a blog.

And to you all talking about a bear turning on it’s owner – that happens in cases of abuse like circuses and zoo’s when the animals are unhappy and have limited human contact or when someone has tried to befriend the animals as adults.., this is totally different. Can’t believe all the negative comments here, really upsets me actually – some people just don’t know how to suck it up and be polite when they are envious or jealous of something somebody else has – like come on did we skip kindergarten people ?? grow the F up.

He is a wildlife specialist. The bear is not in a backyard…in a grizzly reserve. You absolutely cannot release a human-raised, dependent animal back into the wild. The bear gets love, food, shelter, and life. The other cub died, or he would probably be living happily on the reserve as well. Casey gets a friend. It is a fun, happy story, not intended to lead any common person to having a pet bear in their backyard, although I wouldn’t mind having a whole reserve myself! 🙂

Family dinner with the bear? That picture almost look unreal. But I guess he might not be aware that he is a bear. He thinks he is human like his family.
In the picture where they are all sitting at the table eating, those other people are a bunch of daredevils or it could be called stupidity. I would have declined that dinner invitation. I don’t care how hungry I was.
I just got finished watching an episode of “Expedition Grizzly” on Nat Geo Wild (National Geographic).
Let me clear some things up, based on the hour long show I just watched:
1) Casey Anderson RESCUED two cubs when they were around 2 weeks old: Brutus and Sheena. Both of these bears now live in a huge outdoor natural habitat that Anderson built for the both of them (they have access to indoor sleeping quarters, but they don’t need to hybernate because they get fed daily. Wild bears hybernate because their food supply is gone in the winter. )
2) Brutus lived inside Casey’s house for years, until he was too large…thatms when the outdoor natural habitat was created (NO cruel fencing or cages).
3) Brutus eats $35 (16 pounds) worth of food daily.
4) Anderson rescued two more bears who were going to be euthanized: they live in Brutus and Sheena’s outdoor habitat, too.
5) These bears cannot be returned to the wild. Once a bear eats human food, it is considered a MAJOR risk for visitors of, for example, Yellowstone Nat. Park. Casey Anderson and BRUTUS do SO much to educate hikers and people who bring food into bear habitats: once the bears taste human food, they want more. Treadmill was an idiot because he fed the bears human food KNOWING that they could turn on him for his food. Brutus grew up with Anderson and has always eaten both meat and veggies (and treats).
6) Casey Anderson talks about how he and Missy Pyle met on the set of “Pretty Ugly People”, a film in which Brutus had a small role.
7) Anderson said he never leaves Brutus ALONE with other people…NOT that he doesn’t ever let Brutus around other people.
8) Brutus is NOT a wild animal…he NEVER lived in the wild: He thinks Casey is his father.
I hope this helps. “Expedition Grizzly” is a fabulous show. Anderson is a grizzly bear specialist and takes his job seriously.
PS “Grizzly Man” was off his rocker…Casey Anderson is not.
His place in Montana is a place where visitors can come and see how the bears live out in the wild (in reserve Anderson created for Brutus and Sheena…and now the two other bears). Casey Anderson makes a POINT of telling visitors NOT to try to interact with bears the way he does with Brutus, as Brutus grew up with Anderson from week 3 or so. Also, Grizzly Man refused to carry “Bear Pepper Spray”….Anderson puts up electric fences and carries Bear Pepper Spray on his chest when Brutus is around the other bears and Anderson is in the habitat with them.
He’s not stupid. And these photos are not photoshopped. Watch the show and the videos before spewing your ignorance (“ignorance” in the true form of the word, as in “not knowing”)

wow. i would hate to live with a bear. i wonder if his wife would like to get rid of him. i would hate to even have kids around him. i wonder if him teeth are filed and declawed. i wouldnt mind then. but raising kids with a bear? i would hate to even go see them even the bear wasnt mine

If anyone watched the show “My Best Friend’s A Bear” you would know that these photos are definetly not photoshopped. Believe what you want! And if you were smart you would know that Bears raised in captivity CANNOT be released in the wild!! Some people need some serious education here……
The reality is that someday (unexpectedly) this bear will exhibit wild behavior. In most cases the “new” behavior is completely inappropriate for humans to be close to safely. People that do things like this are uneducated about the realities of wild animals. Wild animals are simply not domesticated and will never act so. Sadly, these kinds of “relationships” never end well.
