This year was packed with great new movie releases, but it appears that 2015 is shaping up to be even better, movie-wise. 2015 is going to be the year when we get a new Star Wars movie! That should be enough for many to call 2015 the best year for movie in recent history. If that’s not enough for you, take a look at the most popular new movie releases for the year that follows.
10. Terminator: Genisys (2015)
IMDb Storyline: The year is 2029. John Connor, leader of the resistance continues the war against the machines. At the Los Angeles offensive, John’s fears of the unknown future begin to emerge when TECOM spies reveal a new plot by SkyNet that will attack him from both fronts; past and future, and will ultimately change warfare forever.
Our take on it: If you need a reason to watch a new Terminator movie which stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, then you’re simply insane. We are trembling with excitement at the thought of seeing Arnold in his leather suit!
9. Pitch Perfect 2 (2015)
IMDb Storyline: Collegiate a cappella group the Barden Bellas enter into an international competition that no American team has ever won.
Our take on it: To be honest, the success of Pitch Perfect 1 took many by surprise, but it appears that the need for a sequel was created. We think it’s going to be quite a blockbuster, this one!
8. Ant-Man (2015)
IMDb Storyline: Armed with a super-suit with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang must embrace his inner hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.
Our take on it: Ant-Man has got to be the weirdest of all the superheroes of the world. The craze for the superhero blockbusters is starting to die out and with this movie, Hollywood seems to have scraped the bottom of the barrel. Sorry, but we think it’s going to be quite a flop!
7. Jupiter Ascending (2015)
IMDb Storyline: In the future, a young destitute human woman gets targeted for assassination by the Queen of the Universe, and begins her destiny to finish the Queen’s reign.
Our take on it: The Wachowskis are at it again! We can’t wait to see what the brother and sister have come up with now. The movie is starring Mila Kunis, Eddie Redmayne and Channing Tatum.
6. Home (2015)
IMDb Storyline: When Earth is taken over by the overly confident Boov, an alien race in search of a new place to call home…
Our take on it: It’s a Disney animated movie about aliens starring Jennifer Lopes and Rihanna. We love Disney and are absolutely positive that this one is going to be a hit!
5. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 (2015)
IMDb Storyline: After being symbolized as the ‘Mockingjay’ Katniss Everdeen and District 13 engage in an all-out revolution against the autocratic Capitol.
Our take on it: The Hunger Games have such a huge fan base that it’s going to be hard to discuss anything else, around the launch of this franchise’s part 2.
4. Insurgent (2015)
IMDb Storyline: Beatrice Prior must confront her inner demons and continue her fight against a powerful alliance which threatens to tear her society apart.
Our take on it: Shailene Woodley was brilliant in Divergent and the movie wasn’t bad at all. We hope Insurgent is at least as good as the first part, even though sequels usually aren’t.
3. Fifty Shades of Grey (2015)
IMDb Storyline: Literature student Anastasia Steele’s life changes forever when she meets handsome, yet tormented, billionaire Christian Grey.
Our take on it: This franchise has gathered as much criticism as it has praise, but one thing is for sure: you need to go see this movie to know in which category you belong to.
2. Jurassic World (2015)
IMDb Storyline: Twenty-two years after the events of Jurassic Park, Isla Nublar now features a fully functioning dinosaur theme park, Jurassic World, as originally envisioned by John Hammond. After 10 years of operation and visitor rates declining, in order to fulfill a corporate mandate, a new attraction is created to re-spark visitor’s interest, which backfires horribly.
Our take on it: Jurassic Park is a movie that has shaped the young minds of many people and a new movie is definitely going to draw a huge crowd. We just hope it’s done well.
1. Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens (2015)
IMDb Storyline: A continuation of the saga created by George Lucas set thirty years after Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi.
Our take on it: It’s a new Star Wars movie directed by J.J. Abrams starring Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill. That’s reason alone to stay alive until 2015, don’t you think?
