Thousands of readers of the magazine “Empire” participated in the survey “The worst movie of all time”, and the final result was a list of these 10 movies
10. The Room is a 2003 independent film written and directed by its star, Tommy Wiseau. Without any studio support, Wiseau spent over $7 million on production and marketing for the film and failed.
9. Highlander II: The Quickening is the second installment to the Highlander film series, released on November 1, 1991 by Interstar. Upon release, this film was met with harsh criticism by both critics and audiences.
8. The Happening is a 2008 thriller film that follows a man and his family as they try to escape from an inexplicable natural disaster. The plot revolves around a mysterious neurotoxin from plants. The film was nominated for Worst Picture, Worst Screenplay, Worst Actor (Mark Wahlberg, along with his performance in Max Payne) and Worst Director (M. Night Shyamalan) at the 29th Golden Raspberry Awards. In “The Happening” nothing actually happens.
7. Sex Lives Of The Potato Men is a British comedy film released in 2004. The film is about the sexual antics of a group of potato delivery men in Birmingham. The film was condemned by most film critics for being crude and tasteless. The Times review called it “one of the two most nauseous films ever made”. It was also controversial in that nearly £1 million of public money from the National Lottery via the UK Film Council was used to fund the project.
6. Heaven’s Gate is a 1980 American Western film based on the Johnson County War, a dispute between land barons and European immigrants in Wyoming in the 1890s. The film’s production was plagued by cost and time overruns, negative press, and rumors about director Michael Cimino’s allegedly overbearing directorial style. It is generally considered one of the biggest box office bombs of all-time.
5. Epic Movie is a 2007 American parody film. The film was a financial success despite its extremely negative reviews. Rotten Tomatoes ranked the film 21st in the 100 worst reviewed films of the 2000s, with a rating of 2%. Producers of the movie Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer were nominated for the “Worst Screenplay” award at the 28th Golden Raspberry Awards. Nothing Epic in this movie.
4. Raise The Titanic. The novel was a bestseller. The film, however, was poorly received by the critics and proved to be a box office bomb, losing most of its estimated $40m budget. Lew Grade, one of its major backers, is said to have remarked that it would have been cheaper to lower the Atlantic
3. The Love Guru is a 2008 comedy film, directed by Marco Schnabel and starring Mike Myers and Jessica Alba along with Romany Malco, Justin Timberlake . The Love Guru was panned by most critics. The film was listed as the worst movie of 2008 in the New York Post’s Top 10 Worst Movies of 2008 overview. Before the film’s release, some Hindus expressed unhappiness about how Hindus are portrayed, the disrespect of their culture and the bad impression that it would make for those not well exposed to Hinduism.
2. Battlefield Earth is a 2000 film adaptation of the novel Battlefield Earth by L. Ron Hubbard, staring John Travolta. Critically, the movie was seen as a disaster and reviews were nearly unanimously bad. The Washington Post commented: “A million monkeys with a million crayons would be hard-pressed in a million years to create anything as cretinous as Battlefield Earth.
1. Batman and Robin is a 1997 superhero film directed by Joel Schumacher. Based on the DC Comics character Batman, staring George Clooney. Even him once admitted Batman & Robin, the schlocky 1997 superhero movie that jump-started the actor’s career, was lame. Now director Joel Schumacher’s steaming heap of cinematic dung has been voted the worst film ever by readers of Empire magazine. Atempting to pick out just one bad scene from Batman & Robin is impossible, and it certainly wouldn’t do justice to just how painfully awful the rest of it is. The film is so dreadful that director Joel Schumacher actually apologized for it on the DVD commentary. That’s right, the man who proudly made 8MM, The Number 23 and Cousins thought Batman & Robin was so bad that it warranted an apology.
We all loved Avatar, Hangover and other top movies from 2009, but what did we actually learn from those movies? Check it out here, its hilarious
You forgot Never say never ….. It beats Batman and Robin ……
Also, Why is “The Hulk” not on this list, else I agree
The Happening? seriously? were these voters dumb or blind to actually vote this as one of the worst movies ever? wtf! i’d like to see them direct a better movie those worthless f*cks i’m sick of people criticizing without knowing how to make a better movie. The Happening was one of the best thrillers ever made! losers!
“Worst” movies of all time? Sure, there are some real bombs here, but you don’t seem to have watched a SINGLE one of them. You base your ‘Worst of all time’ label either on what someone else said about it, or its box office numbers, try actually reviewing movies you have watched and your blog might be readable. As it is right now, it’s just another ‘list’, that really doesn’t make anyone’s day any better having read it.
This who;le trend needs to stop, it’s a bunch of hacks putting together lists, but adding nothing of themselves to their commentary.
COME ON why does everyone bag on Battlefield Earth- I love that movie. And come one The Happening wasn’t that bad- it had an original idea (compared to the rest of the Hollywood crap)
I mean come on there are far worse movies then those- like the movie Something Beneath- horrid movie!! or the village- it sucked big time!or House of the Dead- cheese fest. And avatar the last airbender- horrible take on an amazing story- the director should really just quit. He hasn’t made a good movie since the sixth sense.
How is Batman & Robin the worst film?
It’s not the best film I have seen but I cannot see anything bad about it. I enjoyed it and bought he video when it came out.
The Bridge To Terabithia should be No1! It’s too sad for anyone to enjoy!
Oh come on even I have to admit that the Phatom menance is not only the worst Star Wars but is The worse movie ever made!!!! Although there was Star Trek: The Motion Picture
Worst movie I ever saw? Tarzan, the Ape Man with Bo Derek, without a doubt.
Howard the Duck is easily top ten worst, although when I was a kid it was watchable for me. What about any of the Lepercaun (spelling I know) movies? Horrid.
Any “worst movies” list that doesn’t include “Napoleon Dynamite,” “Waterworld,” and the Mad Max and Matrix movies is incomplete.
Rabbit Test and Alien 3 should both be on this list. They’re definitely the two worst that I’ve ever seen.
Spider-Man 3 is worse than all of these combined.
“The Happening” is listed as top 10? really? There were no other movie that was worst than “The Happening”? I actually like that movie. It kept me watching. A bad movie for me is when i have to fast forward to the end becuase it sucks.
There are much worst movies out there..
lol those are correct especially the last one. but guys were is that Mario bros movie? now THAT was bad!
and about batman: thats what happens when you screw around too much with a beloved franchise, put in two caharacters we dont want to see (batgirl and robin) all we want is batman not an annoying girl and a bungling cant act man/boy. but george clooney was CERTAINLY awful. but Arnold did do a good job of Mr. Freeze (in my opinion mainly bc i always like Mr. Freeze. and Arnold) Alaow me ta break de iece. my name iz mista freeeze. learn itwell for it iz da chilling sound of your dooom!
I bought “The Love Guru” cheap on ebay as a whim. I fully expected it to be a 5 min. SNL skit pushed to an unbearable 90 minutes. I literally did NOT want to hear Mike do that accent the whole time. I LOVED it! Not “Sar Wars” loved it but I was surprised.
I didn’t know it was basically a sports/hockey movie, your standard underdog comedy. So score one for my nephew to also enjoy. Fun cameos, really worth a try, I suggest people get over their dread of it and rent it! 🙂
Whoever put “Dark Knight” on their list of worst films needs a punch in the teeth to wake you from the ignorant stupidity you exist in: Christopher Nolan has yet to be disappointing with any film.
Batman and Robin was campy, yes, but it was better than Battlefield:Earth.
All of the parody films like Epic Movie should be on this list: they were all terrible. And they seem to breed for some, strange reason (mostly because ignorant dolts pay to watch them).
And what about A League of Their Own? Madonna and Rosie O’Donnel’s attempt to ruin Tom Hanks? Or how about Baby Genius’s? Track of the Moon Beast? The Starfighters? Super Mario Bros? The Pest? Anything that Paris Hilton has been in?
Mars attacks was pure crap! any movie with julia roberts or kristen durnst or w/e her name is Pure Garbage!! yes includes all spider man movies! Battle field was correct in being in the list, all movies with animals talking “non cartoon” whether for the for kids or not is just Horrible! did any1 see the dragon ball z movie? how the hell that crap didn’t make the list is beyond me, all parody movies suck! they alone probably were the worst of seriously ALL TIME!! Yes i said Of All Time! Bruno and the other one with that actor belongs in that list! just Sick! Clover Field waste of money going to see that piece of literal dogg shit! jurassic park 3 sucked maybe to me because T Rex was killed off like he wasn’t shit! ninja turtles where they travaled to japan wow!
Lets not forget classic Crap like Gigli or any j lo movie for that matter! Are we there yet pure crap! shit i could go on and on! the more i think about it it’s impossible to choose a top 100 let alone top 10 of pure crap! there sure is alot
Oh, goody. More “Batman and Robin” bashing. How original.
What, no Troll 2?
I disagree with The Happening on the list. There are a lot worse movies than The Happening. The Lady in the Water or The Village for example, Glitter, Crossroads with Britney Spears, Dumber and Dumberer, There are so many, how about the Switch with Jennifer Aniston as bad as that was I still wouldn’t say that was in the top ten
i can point out the worst part in the crapman an robin movie , the part were i think it was batman comes crashing through a door on the batcycle and leaves a hole shaped like a perfect bat symble , an it could have been soo good i loved uma as Ivy thats about it .
Have the people who voted on this list seen any really bad films?
VAN HELSING, THE MUMMY, and G.I.JOE should be in this list as well.
Why isn’t Avatar on this list – the biggest load of tosh ever !!
What about Copper Mountain?
Batman & Robin was pretty bad, but I don’t know that it was any worse than Ang Lee’s “Hulk” or “Superman IV: The Quest for Peace”.
What, no Matilda (the boxing kangaroo)?! I’m proud to say that I’ve seen NONE of the movies that made this list, though I’ve definitely seen my share of total trash over the years – including several on this great list of the worst movies of ALL time, ever ever:
This is one of the worst top 10 reviews of all time. I have seen so many movies that are so much more worse than the ones listed. That list is just pathetically inaccurate.
The worst movie of all time has to be the sequal to “War of the Worlds”. The sequal was called “War of the Worlds 2: The Next Wave” and it never made it to cinema, it has none of the original cast, its extremely slow, boring and it was made with a pigy bank budget with the worst special effects you will ever see
I don’t even understand how I ended up right here, but I assumed this publish was once great. I do not understand who you’re however certainly you’re going to a famous blogger if you happen to aren’t already. Cheers!
I agree with most movies on this list except for Heavens Gates it was alright. But Battle field Earth that was some crazy stupid movie. Talk about a hobby film for John Travolta and Scientology.
Jon
There are many movies I would put on top of a worst list over some of these such as THX1138, Super Mario Brothers, Disaster Movie (much worse than epic movie), Very Bad Things, though I agree with some of these it’s hardly a definitive 10 worst.
Oh and Starship Troopers 2, it fails on every level.
I’m like you and have a wide variety of mioevs I like to watch. I can dumb down and watch something silly to get a laugh or watch something that is challenging and thought provoking too. I love mainly action, crime or comedies myself. I have my own faves and mioevs I watch when I’m in a particular mood too.Shaun the Aussie
Eragon was absolutely horrendous, yet Empire’s readers opted to rate it only 36th worst in that list of the bottom 50, therefore not bad enough to rate this cut-and-pasted page. At least the novel is bad enough to be good.
And I don’t care for Ladyhawke or Naked Gun 33? either, but, damn it, I have yet to see a shoddier movie than The Serpent and the Rainbow—way more boring and predictable than actually scary and not in the least based in fact.
