Isn’t humanity so perfectly beautiful in its imperfection? We all make mistakes. We know that. That doesn’t mean that all of us actually manage to accept this fact. A mistake is a razor with two sharp blades. In some instances, accepting that you’ve done something wrong can take a lot of effort and moving past your own ego. At the other extreme, there are people immensely affected even by the smallest of slip-ups, often feeling guilty about things that weren’t even their fault to begin with.
In all of these instances, the conclusion is the same – a mistake was made, and we need to move on from it. Here are some quotes about mistakes that speak of moving on, which teach us that regrets need to be put behind us and that all of this represents a necessary learning process.

“We all make mistakes, have struggles, and even regret things in our past. But you are not your mistakes, you are not your struggles, and you are here NOW with the power to shape your day and your future.” – Steve Maraboli
The most common thing that we struggle with whenever we make a mistake is the thought that it’s going to haunt us for the rest of our lives. Other people might be tempted to define us by our past (wrongly so, however) and it is up to us to change that. The moment we start believing ourselves that our mistakes are in the past, we can proceed to live in the present and build a new future.
“The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.” – John Powell
How are we supposed to know what good is without learning about evil first? How are we supposed to know what right is without knowing wrong? This is what we need to keep in mind when making mistakes. In a lot of the cases, these mistakes happen outside of our will. As we grow older, mistakes will be fewer and fewer, all thanks to the slip-ups of the past which we’ve learned from.

“You will only fail to learn if you do not learn from failing.” – Stella Adler
A very important quote about learning, it references to the fact that the process is directly linked to both success and failure. Acquiring knowledge about something involves facing both the good and the bad and, rather than suffering from our failures, we should instead get motivated.
“If you live life long enough, you’ll make mistakes. But if you learn from them, you’ll be a better person. It’s how you handle adversity, not how it affects you. The main thing is never quit, never quit, never quit.” – William Clinton
This quote talks about how mistakes can build us into better people, conditioning it to the fact that we should never give up no matter how many times we are faced with failure.

“I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re doing something.” – Neil Gaiman
A very beautiful quote, it’s a reflection of the perception that mistakes can be tied in with new experiences. In turn, new experiences mean living, which is defined by activity and not passivity.
“You must learn from the mistakes of others. You can’t possibly live long enough to make them all yourself.” – Samuel Levenson
Last but not least, we need to keep in mind that we aren’t the only ones who make mistakes. Those around us do too, and we owe them as much forgiveness as we are trying to give ourselves.
