Arguably one of the biggest forms of entertainment today, the movie industry has another big year waiting for us. It will be littered with sequels, gaming adaptations, animations, and lots and lots of superhero movies. That was mostly expected though from 2016’s movie roster. Both Marvel and DC are still in power, in spite of the latter’s recent failure in the form of Batman Vs. Superman.

Each year, we know the golden rule of new releases. The first few months are not very exciting. That is not when the big blockbusters are launched nor when studios make money. Granted, there have been a few exceptions this year, such as Deadpool in February, which did more than the audience and the studio expected. However, Marvel’s favorite anti-hero was probably a hidden gem that took years to develop, and it’s unlikely it will be matched soon.

However, we’re heading further into this year, and things are about to get a little hotter at the box office. Here is a list of 2016 movie releases still to look forward to and that you should consider checking out. If anything, you’ll definitely hear about them.

April

We are halfway through the month, but there still are some releases that should pique your attention. The most notable one is the live-action The Jungle Book movie, which has been relentlessly marketed this past month. With a star-studded cast and a familiar story, it’s likely that many Disney fans will head on over to see their childhood tale come to life. Whether it will be good or not, it remains to be seen.

May

This is when the heat really starts. With the beginning of the summer, studios start releasing their big money-makers and flicks that have to rise to expectations of high-quality. There’s no doubt about it that May will be captured by Captain America: Civil War. The fight between Captain America and Iron Man is arguably the most anticipated battle of 2016. Who doesn’t want to see the straight-shooter and noble Steve Rogers throw down with the genius and charismatic Tony Stark?

June

It’s very likely that June will have two major releases that will battle it out for popularity. It will be an interesting race, given that they’re just one week apart, and represent two completely different genres. Warcraft is expected to lure its vast fanbase to the theaters and bring in record sales. It might not even have to be good. It just has to be ‘not bad’. It is something to look forward to, given the exquisite lore of the Warcraft universe and the many stories to tell.

The second contender for the title of June’s best is the highly-anticipated Finding Dory. Years ago, Finding Nemo captured our hearts and found its place among the Pixar and Disney classics. Now, the attention will be drifting from Nemo and his father, and will instead concentrate on the charmingly forgetful Dory. Most of us would want to see her story.

July

Zootopia was, without a doubt, one of the biggest surprises of the year. The animation was highly praised, funny, insightful, and far exceeded expectations. It proved that just because it looks like it’s for kids that it can have beautiful adult messages and tackle real-life problems. In July, The Secret Life of Pets could display the same potential. At the very least, it looks like it could inspire a few laughs.

If animation is not to your taste, though, there’s Star Trek Beyond to tickle your fandomness or perhaps take a gander on how the Ghostbusters reboot will do. Given the trailer, the latter is not expecting praise, though.

August

Is it any question what movie anyone is looking forward to in August? No. We figured that was the case. Suicide Squad is expected to deliver the high-quality and excellent storyline that will fully display DC’s potential. It’s time for them to show that Marvel is not the only one able to do superhero movies right. Although, no one should expect bravery and nobility from any of these characters.

September

Autumn will see to a bit of a cooling at the box office, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to go watch. It will be interesting to take a look at Snowden and see the story’s interpretation after Edward Snowden caused controversy all around the world a few years back. Or, you could just wait for the end of the month and watch The Magnificent Seven.

This month might just bring the attention back to superhero movies, as the world will be getting Gambit, the story of a fan-favorite X-Men. There’s tremendous potential and a chance for us to get another superb origin story. And if all else fails, there’s Underworld 5 to look forward to, if you’re still hankering for a vampire versus werewolves fix.

Yes, Doctor Strange is another movie for superhero fans, and Moana will be looking to bring some Disney magic. But that’s not the kind of magic everyone is really looking forward to. Most of us are yearning to be taken back to the Wizarding World, and we will have our wishes delivered. Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them will toss us into a time when Harry Potter did not even exist. It will show us the Wizarding World in the United States, and show us more wonders that we have grown to love.

December

Christmas? When’s that? In December? You mean during Star Wars month? It’s likely that for the next five years, each December will be Star Wars month as the major franchise will continue to expand. It’s not just sequels we should look forward to because there’s plenty more to come. The studios will be releasing spin-off stories to keep us hooked once every two years. And in between, we get more Star Wars.
