Fame and glory have a curious way of affecting musical bands. Some artists become famous overnight, while others worked hard for years in order to become successful. On the other hand, there are bands that slowly fade away, and others that disappear as abruptly as they have conquered the tops. There are a couple of musicians from the past that are still active today that we have quite possibly forgotten about, even though they once meant the world to us.
1. Jessica Simpson
The first among the musicians from the past that are still active is Jessica Simpson. Even though she is mostly known from the awful reality TV show about her and Nick Lachey’s marriage, she managed to differentiate herself from other teenager singer newcomers by her amazing voice. Fifteen years later, she does not display her relationships on TV, but she still produces music. The singer released her latest album, Happy Christmas, in 2010 and is currently working on her eighth studio album with Primary Wave Music.
2. Limp Bizkit
There was a time when boy bands were the kings of the musical stage. Few of you might be aware that Limp Bizkit are among the musicians from the past that are still active. They were well-known for the elaborate visual appearance, including uniforms, body paint, masks and face paint. The famous rap rock band performed at the Soundwave festival in Australia in 2012 and the moment is recording its seventh album named Stampede of the Disco Elephants.
3. Foster the People
Foster the People was one of the bands that was destined to release only one hit. Not many people can remember anything about them apart from “Pumped Up Kicks” and “Don’t Stop”, and the root of the problem seems to have been the fact that they changed genres too often. After attempting to go in the rock direction, they have recently announced that their next album will be hip hop oriented. Their last album, Supermodel, was released in 2014.
4. Marilyn Manson
Now here is a figure we will not forget too soon. One of the greatest musicians from the past that are still active, Marilyn Manson became famous for his songs filled with anger, belonging to the metal and goth rock styles. Manson had a lot of appeal for teenagers, but after they grew up, his popularity started to fade. However, he hasn’t stopped singing and continues to perform in his unique way. His latest album titled The Pale Emperor was released last year.
5. Sum 41
Sum 41 is among the first bands to attempt mixing rock with rap. Their first famous song, “Fat Lip” became extremely popular. Even though we haven’t heard much the band lately, they have released since then another four studio albums: Does This Look Infected?, Chuck, Underclass Hero and Screaming Bloody Murder. Their comeback was celebrated at the Alternative Press Awards in 2015. Their next album is expected to be released this year, as Deryck Whibley stated that it is almost finished.
6. The Smashing Pumpkins
The musicians from the past that are still active today have gone through hard times as well. The Smashing Pumpkins pursued an unique musical style, combining electronic with goth and grunge and thus became very popular in the 1990s. However, they lost their success when the decade ended and the band finally broke up. In 2007, frontman Billy Corgan started to release new music under the old name of the band. At the moment, the group is expected to go on a tour in North America with the previously mentioned Marilyn Manson. Their last album, Monuments to an Elegy, was released in 2014 and another one is expected to be finished this year.
