Hooking up isn’t a science; it’s an art. An art that we all–at one point or another–have had the desire to perfect. What if there was a guidebook we could read to learn how to perfect this art? Enter Sam Greenspan, creator of 11Points.com and author of 11 Points Guide to Hooking Up: Lists and Advice about First Dates, Hotties, Scandals, Pick-ups, Threesomes, and Booty Calls.
“This is the book you turn to for handy tips on dating, from pickup lines, to first dates, to how to propose a threesome,” recommends actor Steve Sterling in the commercial above. The ad was directed by Zachary Bowman and produced by Will Paoletto over a four day period in September. Shot on a shoe-string budget at a famous Virginia restaurant named Shackleford’s, this slapstick romp gave the director an opportunity to use whip pans, a technique made famous by Kung Fu movies in the 1970’s.
The advert also gave John Cappello an opportunity to play a character who gets thrown around a lot. Appropriately, John’s character is named “Disco,” and he’s a wig-wearing hooligan of the highest order. If you learn anything from this highly entertaining commercial, we hope it’s that putting on a fake afro and disco suit and attempting to hit on ladies will lead to disastrous results–in most circumstances anyway. Making odd, sexually suggestive hand motions probably didn’t help Mr. Disco’s case much either. We also hope the commercial teaches you to buy a copy of Sam Greenspan’s book. It does indeed run the gamut as far as dating advice goes. There is, in case you were wondering, a chapter devoted entirely to bar and party pickup strategies that actually work. There’s also a chapter about how to take awesome nude photos. Told ya it runs the gamut.
So…pickup a copy!
