After Cinderella managed to bring to theaters a surprising amount a people and The Jungle Book managed to establish a record by surpassing its source material, everyone is excited for Belle’s story to return to cinemas. Moreover, we have a feeling that Emma Watson was born to play the part, so we couldn’t be more excited.

#4 Star Wars Episode VIII

When The Force Awakens was announced, fans collectively held their breaths and prayed that the revival of the Star Wars saga wouldn’t end up being just another case of “prequels.” They all breathed out in content once they realized it had lived up to their expectations. Now that it’s clear the latest trilogy wants to atone for the sins of hoarse sand, stakes are raised even higher. It’s no longer a matter of “if it’s going to be good,” but rather a matter of “how good it’ll be.”

#5 Toy Story 4

New Movies Being Made - Toy Story 4

Release Date: June 16, 2017

People are torn on this one. On one hand, many of us are growing gradually tired of endless sequels (we’re looking at you, Transformers) and fear that the more of them, the lower the quality. But it’s Toy Story! It hasn’t exactly disappointed us so far and, now that the prospect of a fresh start is up ahead, we can only hope that this means good news for our favorite gang of sentient toys.

#6 Wonder Woman

Release Date: June 23, 2017

Whether you call this an attempt on DC’s part to unite their characters in the same universe in a style similar to Marvel or a rushed decision to catch up to them, we should all agree that a Wonder Woman movie is a good thing. While Marvel still has to turn one of its popular female characters into leads for their own movies, Gel Gadot will be reprising her role as the super amazon after only one appearance in Dawn of Justice.

#7 Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Sequel

New Movies Being Made - Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Sequel

Source

Release Date: July 14, 2017

The more movies are being released about Caesar’s saga, the less it makes us think back on Tim Burton’s borderline comical Planet of the Apes. At the end of the last film, it was a clear thing that there was a full-blown war brewing between humans and the apes. Wherever that all leads, it’s clear that the third movie in the saga will be filled with intensity and action.

#8 Spider-Man: Homecoming

Release Date: July 28, 2017

After a discontinued trilogy and a discontinued reboot, everyone’s favorite web-slinger confirms that the third time is a charm. True, we haven’t seen what the movie is actually like yet, but given Marvel’s track record for faithful representations and overall memorable films, we have quite a lot of trust placed in their hands. After debuting in Captain America: Civil War, Tom Holland is due to take us back to a high-school Peter Parker and give us the MCU’s interpretation of his adventures.

#9 Thor: Ragnarok

New Movies Being Made - Thor Ragnarok

Source

Release Date: November 3, 2017

But the Marvel releases don’t end with Spider-Man. The third movie in the Thor line-up of movies is bound to hit the big screens sometime around the end of 2017. We don’t know a lot about what we’re going to see yet, but the sheer casting announcements that let us know we’ll be seeing a lot of Hollywood giants star in the motion picture is enough to get us excited. However, given how the Ragnarok symbolizes the Norse apocalypse, we know for sure that there will be a lot of strife and chaos thrown into the mix.

#10 Fifty Shades Darker

Release Date: February 10, 2017

And last but not least, the release that has people not only split in two sides, but at war with each other – the second installment of the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise. If you thought that the continuation was cancelled, you were wrong. It was temporarily delayed for 2016 because of some difficulties with the screenwriters, but fans of the steamy tale of Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey will be able to delve back into their lives around Valentine’s Day in 2017.

How To Find A Hobby To Last You A Lifetime

How To Find A Hobby

Source

Do you dread the “what are your hobbies?” question? This happens for several reasons. On one hand, it’s likely that you don’t really know if you have any hobbies to begin with. What exactly classifies as a hobby? Can you say that browsing the Internet all day long and binge-watching House of Cards count as a hobby? And to give some answers before moving on, yes, it does. As long as it’s something that you fill your pastime with because it’s an activity you enjoy, it counts as a hobby.

On another hand, maybe the question poses such a difficulty because you’ve answered it so many times, given so many different hobbies in return, and you’re mildly scared that you’ll abandon this one too. It’s not necessarily a matter of fickleness or how consistent you are in your activities. Some people get easily bored, and hobbies are unfortunate enough not to be able to elude this vicious circle. You think you’ve found that one thing that you can wholly commit to and that you can work towards perfecting for years to come, but one day you’re just not interested anymore all of sudden.

Is there any way to avoid that? How to find a hobby that will be able to fill your time for the rest of your life? This is a very subjective process, and there are as many hobbies out there as there are possible outcomes to this experience.

Always Stick to Your Passions

How To Find A Hobby

Source

This might sound like an obvious step, but we mean it less in a “do what you like” kind of way and more in a “don’t try to be edgy or follow the flock” kind. When you ask other people about their hobbies and all you hear left and right are people repeating the same things, you might be tempted to think that they’re boring and, therefore, unworthy of becoming your hobby too.

Who cares? If you go around boasting about your newfound passion for celebrity broom collecting, it all ultimately means nothing if you don’t do it for yourself. Maybe camel hair trimming sounds like a more interesting thing, but if reading is what you really like doing, it’s only a matter of time until you ditch your edgy hobby for the “boring” one. Own your hobby, no matter how basic or – quite the opposite – bizarre and unheard of it is.

Leave Room for Improvement

This speaks for itself. There is no fun in finality because nobody likes goodbyes. Remember how exciting building skills in The Sims is? Well, it’s not exciting per se, but we are all looking forward to seeing what achievement a new level unlocks. Once that gauge is filled, and the maximum skill level is reached, there is nothing left. Transmute this mentality into the real world.

Repetition leads to boredom. If your hobby doesn’t have any new corners left for you to explore, you’ll be stuck doing the same thing forever. This is why hobbies such as painting, reading, movie watching, or playing musical instruments are so popular and generally beloved. There is always something new to them, something more. You can learn new songs, watch new movies and TV shows, read new books, try a new painting. More than that, in the case of painting and music, you can reinvent yourself too. You can adopt a new artistic style or play on the piano rock songs instead.

Intertwine the Hobby with Your Job

How To Find A Hobby

Source

If you’ve taken up a hobby that contributes to the improvement of a certain set of skills which are useful in other areas, then the mere existence of this connection is going to solidify your dedication to the respective activity. Let’s say you like yoga. If you work in a stressful environment, you can ease your mind through yoga practice. In conclusion, your hobby is improving your life and is giving you a boost of performance at work, as well as in your personal life.

This can apply for a variety of things, even if they seem unrelated. If you are an engineer who kind of lacks brain-to-hand communication and multi-tasking, pick up a musical instrument, a hobby which was proven to help with this issue. This way, in no time, it will become a mandatory part of your life.

10 Ways How Finding A Hobby Can Improve Your Life

May 5, 2016 By Ali Quinn Leave a Comment

Work is a major part of our life, but it’s also a universal practice that creates stress. In turn, that can result in various medical conditions later on in life or even have effects on our present-day life. Everyone needs and deserves time to unwind, take a few moments, and let their brain have a break. Some are fortunate enough to acquire that sort of relief through works. Others, however, are not so fortunate.

Some people find hobbies to be a waste of time and an unnecessary activity that has virtually no benefits, other than imaginary ones. However, research and experience will tell you that they could have a significant positive impact, one that will last you a lifetime. It’s about time everyone knows how good finding a hobby could be for you and how they can do wonders for your life.

1. An Escape

Doing what you love will make the time go by faster. You can focus on your activity, ranging from sports to indoor hobbies like writing or knitting, and you will lose track of time. Hobbies force you into a calm state of mind, where the world around you disappears. There are no problems, no stressful situations, no frustration, and no disappointment. As long as you love it, it will make you happy.

It’s important to find the right one because once you do, you will start wondering how you ever lived without it. A hobby is a perfect way of escaping your life and, no matter how good it is, we all need a break once in a while.

2. Take a Breather

Speaking of which, your new hobby will encourage you to take a break and let yourself relax. You’d be surprised how many of us genuinely need something to remind us of that. If you’re dedicated to your job and your work, then your passion will be there to pull you out. Your mind and your body will need a break at some point. Find a hobby and it will constantly remind you that your life is not always work, work, and more work.

However, always keep yourself in check. It might be tempting to dive fully into our passion and forgoing everything else.

3. The Good Kind of Stress

Finding something you love doing will inspire you. A hobby will make you excited, a type of stress that actually has a good impact. Finding your passion will make you more driven and more ambitious, and that will have a positive effect on your life. There is no better way to access that kind of stress. A good hobby will excite you, and make you enthusiastic, and overall a much happier person.

4. An Outlet for the Bad Kind of Stress

A hobby is not something that you need to do, it’s something that you want to do. It’s an excellent outlet for stress because you’ll be doing something you’re truly passionate about. It’s a great source of relief as your mind will find something different to focus on. Find it, get into it, and you will see how all the daily worries and stress will just evaporate. It’s a beautiful thing to get immersed into a hobby to the point where it nearly becomes your lifeline.

5. Find Your Hidden Talents

Once you find your passion, you might end up discovering skills and talents you never knew you had. It could be anything, and it could’ve been a part of you that remained hidden under the layers. Identity is an important thing to find in life, and a hobby could just be one of the many things that will help you uncover more of it. You’ll learn more about yourself because your passion will be the main drive, and you’ll always want to delve deeper.

6. New People, New Friends, New Community

The internet is a wonderful tool. It can be vicious and cruel, but at the same time, it can be incredible at connecting people for all around the world. It almost guarantees that whatever you’re passionate about, there’s someone else out there who loves the same thing as you. Do you have a hobby of drawing maps of fictional worlds that never existed? Do you like creating Star Wars figurines out of clay? Chances are, there is someone else in the world who likes doing it too.

Finding a hobby will connect you to new people and an entirely new community. It’s a good chance at discovering new people from different cultures, and making new friends. And, if you think about it from a more philosophical standpoint, it will truly show you that just because they’re from another country, a different age, sex, ethnicity, or even beliefs, they’re really not that different at the core.

7. Positive Challenges

One of the greatest things about finding a new hobby is the fact that you can start challenging yourself in a positive way. You’re doing something you enjoy and it you will want to get better at it with time. It will offer you an opportunity to try new things, to explore, or perhaps take some classes. Before you know it, you will find yourself doing things that others view as “work”. But it will not be that for you. Finding a hobby will provide excellent new challenges that you will want to undertake.

8. Health Benefits

If you enjoy activities such as sports, it’s clear that there will be physical benefits to having that sort of hobby. You will get in better shape and find your stamina skyrocket if what you enjoy is playing football, basketball, swimming, or any sort of intense activity. Your body will become more defined, you will look better, and, yes, you will be healthier. However, even if your hobby does not include physical activities, it will still benefit your health.

Studies have shown that finding the right hobby and indulging in your passion can have tremendous benefits. Hobbies have been associated with lower blood pressure, lower BMI, waist circumference, along with positive levels of psychosocial stress. Not to mention the fact that they help combat depression and other negative conditions. It’s good for your mind and body.

9. Job Opportunities

A hobby becomes part of who you are, and it’s one of the things that make us into unique individuals. Having one will certainly bring you more job opportunities and will make your resume look better than before. You might not think this is true, but an employer is interested in what you enjoy doing in your leisure time. It’s important that you show that you’re passionate and initiative enough to learn something new all by yourself.

10. Confidence

Have you heard that confidence is one of the most important things to have in life? That’s true. Finding a hobby means finding something you love. If you love it, the chances are that you’ll become good at it. And if you’re good at something, it will serve to boost your confidence in your everyday life. A hobby can have a spectacular effect and help you improve your self-esteem. Before you know it, you will be able to summon that confidence and make your life better by grabbing opportunities and even taking risks that will later pay off.

Great People In History Who Were Assassinated

April 21, 2016 By Ali Quinn Leave a Comment

Maybe, today, seeing state officials and other important people surrounded and heavily guarded by security forces might seem a bit unusual. Is it really a need for something like this? Surely, no one would be as foolish as to try to assassinate a president or a famous singer, right? That belief is as wrong as it gets, as proven by the situation of these great people in history whose public recognition only drew more ill intentions towards them.

#7 John Lennon

Great People In History

Source

As a founder and member of one of the greatest bands of all time, John Lennon was the very definition of a superstar. What was even more admirable about him was that he used his fame as a way to promote peace. Naturally, there were people who disagreed with the mentality promoted by the artist, with one of them going as far as to shoot Lennon four times right in front of his hotel. Killer Mark David didn’t fight his arrest, and he’s still behind bars today, though his reasoning is still highly unclear.

#6 Mahatma Gandhi

Great People In History

Source

There is no worse way to go for a peace activist than through the very thing he’s been fighting against. Gandhi was a beacon of hope in a world riddled by violence and dividing caused by religious differences. So, when he was gunned down by a student turned extreme activist, the whole world was in shock.

#5 John F. Kennedy

Great People In History

Source

JFK wasn’t the first American president to have been assassinated, but none of the previous tragedies have been so exposed to the eye of the public. Surrounded by hundreds of supporters and projected on televisions all over the country, John F. Kennedy’s death left a deep mark on the hearts of American citizens, which has yet to be healed.

#4 Julius Caesar

Great People In History

Source

Even though it sounds like an event that’s been taken right off the pages of a melodrama, the assassination of the Roman Emperor was a very real thing. Most importantly, it dramatically affected the entire empire, sending Rome into a spiral of chaos and betrayals that would knock the mighty city off its own axis. After all, if the Emperor wasn’t safe, being ultimately betrayed by his own son, then who was?

#3 Martin Luther King

Great People In History

Source

Just like in the case of Gandhi, King’s death was a huge blow for a wider mass, respectively for all the black people who were fighting for their freedom and the abolishing of racial discrimination. The mind behind the American Civil Rights Movement, King was a believer of equality who tragically met his end because of a gunshot. At the other end of the gun was a white man who was opposed to the movement promoted by Martin Luther King.

#2 Abraham Lincoln

Great People In History

Source

The American president’s famed assassination during his attendance at a theater play left a whole country, already ravaged by the aftermaths of the Civil War, mourning. He was fatally shot in the head by a Confederate spy, who turned against Lincoln because of his support towards the emancipation of African American people. Many believe that Lincoln’s death was the reason why the Civil War lasted for so long.

#1 Franz Ferdinand

Great People In History

Source

The Archduke of Austria was assassinated during a visit to Sarajevo, part of a Serbia that was, at the time, under the rule of Austria-Hungary. His was almost certainly the catalyst for the second biggest conflict in history, as only two months after his assassination, World War I was erupting. Although it was initially a dispute between Serbia and Austria-Hungary, the conflict led to a domino effect which resulted in formed alliances that clashed and tore the world apart.

Alien Invasion Movies That Became Popular

April 15, 2016 By Ali Quinn Leave a Comment

Be it comedy, action, thriller, or documentaries, we have all seen our share of alien movies. We have an idea in our mind on how they would look like. The most popular option is “the E.T.” type, with long limbs, green-ish skin, big eyes, and exceptional intelligence, possibly even superhuman abilities. In pop-culture, though, aliens arrive in many shapes and sizes. They’re not always frightening or exactly what we think.

However, one thing is for certain. Most of them do not get along with humans, and their main goal is to take over our planet or destroy it altogether. Luckily, there has always been someone to save us, a series of heroes and people willing to go through the risk. Some were even unwilling participants.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)

invasion of the body snatchers movie poster

Named as one of the best remakes in history, this reawakening of the 1956 movie became an instant classic. It’s the pinnacle of aliens among us, even though it has been considered to have political undertones and an allegory of communism. The directors said that all those symbols were unintentional and that their purpose was to create a thrilling alien invasion movie. It’s not big on explosions, but it’s a subtle infiltration, which makes it all the scarier. Aliens taking over humans and becoming emotionless creatures? Don’t look too hard into it.

Independence Day

independence day movie

Another classic movie that has gone far in the minds of the audience. In fact, there’s a sequel coming up, though it remains to be seen if it will stand up to the original. Unlikely, but we’ll give it a fair chance. Unlike Invasion of the Body Snatchers, this particular alien invasion has no subtlety about it. It’s done through brute force, compelling the nation to stand together against their attacker. It also has one of the most iconic scenes of the White House’s destruction in history.

Mars Attacks!

Sure, the aliens don’t look like much if you’re watching this movie today. However, Mars Attacks! is an iconic depiction of an alien invasion movie. It’s the peek example, riddle with creepy-looking aliens, dark humor, and a star-studded cast that were at the beginning of their careers. It’s a movie you will certainly never forget. You do get to see Sarah Jessica Parker’s head on the body of a Chihuahua. Try to take that image out of your head.

The Faculty

the faculty movie poster

We don’t need no education. If you’ve seen this movie, it’s unlikely that you cannot associate it with Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in The Wall (Part II)”. The combination has brought both the movie and the hit song amazing popularity. The Faculty is another iconic depiction of an alien invasion done more subtly, as high schoolers battle the takeover of their school. These are truly kids who should be scared of their teachers.

Men in Black

men in black 1 movie poster

A different kind of movie that does count as an alien invasion. And who hasn’t heard of Men in Black? Or their trademark futuristic gadgets? The difference is that many aliens in this particular movie already live among us. Some do it peacefully while others have ill intentions. It almost sounds like actual humans, doesn’t it? And who will be there to protect us? The men in black.

Alien Vs. Predator

alien versus predator movie poster

Photo courtesy of 20th Century Fox

Humans should’ve really, really stayed out of it. Two of the most iconic aliens in pop-culture battle it out against each other. The premise isn’t the actual alien invasion as they reign down on us from the skies. It’s that aliens had already invaded us a long, long time ago. It depicts the powerful Predator as an almighty species, where Scott Ridley’s aliens are a major trial in their lives, a test they have to pass. It does explain how the Predators became such an exquisite example of peak… well, predators.

Pacific Rim

pacific rim movie poster

Aliens versus robots? Bring it on. Pacific Rim was arguably one of the best alien invasion movies in recent times. It was highly praised by critics and remarkably received by the public. It’s fun, loud, destruction, and actually had a very interesting storyline that kept the audience wanting more. And it’s certainly coming. The sequel, Pacific Rim 2, is currently in the works.

The Avengers

the avengers movie

Out of the movies on this list, this is definitely the one that earned the most, shattering box office records. And, funnily enough, it’s not the first movie that comes to people’s minds when they think of an ‘alien invasion movie’. But that’s exactly what it is. It is indeed a superhero movie, a pretty important one that bands most of Marvel’s most famous heroes together, but they are battling aliens seeking to destroy our world. So, it definitely counts.

Transformers

first transfomers movie

The franchise became wildly popular in spite of the fact that it was viciously criticized by virtually everyone. It’s making money, and everyone knows about it. No one said a movie had to be good to be popular. The Transformers franchise took off with a blast, coming out with big sales, and enough prequels to make a pretty long marathon if you’re planning a movie night. And it’s not stopping. Transformers 5 will be coming out next year.

Man of Steel

man of steel superman movie

Yes, this certainly counts as an alien invasion movie, in spite of the fact that we have a superhero alien fighting on our side. Man of the Steel was the first installment of the rebooted Superman that established Henry Cavill as our kryptonian hero. He fought off his kind, the aliens guided by General Zod, laying waste to Metropolis. And that, basically, was one of the catalysts of the recent Batman Vs. Superman.
